Lilly Steinbeiser is an artist based in Upstate New York.

My work is driven by spontaneous encounters with the wild—moments of reverence, fear, and mystery that imprint themselves on my process. Through a surreal lens, I explore the intersection of animals, domestic objects, and portraiture, weaving mythical narratives that blur the line between civilization and wilderness. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s emotional self-portraits and the uncanny nature of surrealism, I depict animals interacting with human remnants, evoking tension, symbolism, and the unseen. Influenced by the poetry of Mary Oliver, I seek to express our deep, often fragile connection to the wild.
